چکیده

Superior Vena Cava (SVC) syndrome is an uncommon but known complication of Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) and pacemaker lead placement. In general 0.2 to 3% of all implants are associated with symptomatic SVC stenosis. Stent placement is a viable option for benign SVC syndrome in the absence of indwelling pacing leads. The risk of perforation and lead fracture increases when large numbers of leads are present chronically. We describe here a case of patient with SVC syndrome secondary to chronic ICD and pacemaker lead placement and a novel use of IN.PACTtm paclitaxel drug coated balloon to treat the SVC obstruction with a favorable clinical result.

Expandable Wallstent for the treatment of obstruction of the superior vena cava.

BACKGROUND Palliative treatments for obstruction of the superior vena cava all have disadvantages. The use of a fine braided wire self expanding stent (Wallstent, Schneider (Europe) AG) in patients with malignant and benign causes of superior vena cava obstruction is reported. METHODS Five patients with obstruction of the superior vena cava were treated with balloon angioplasty of the strictu...

Percutaneous Balloon Angioplasty in Membranous Obstruction of Inferior Vena Cava with Massive Thrombi: a case report

We report the successful treatment of BuddChiari syndrome caused by membranous obstruction of intrahepatic inferior vena cava (MOVC) with large amount of thrombi by balloon angioplasty. A 45-year-old woman developed general malaise and edema of legs. MOVC with large thrombi was diagnosed after MR angiogram and vena cavogram. We performed two-stage percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) wit...

Review of evolving etiologies, implications and treatment strategies for the superior vena cava syndrome

Superior vena cava syndrome (SVCS) is a relatively common sequela of mediastinal malignancies and may cause significant patient distress. SVCS is a medical emergency if associated with laryngeal or cerebral edema. The etiologies and management of SVCS have evolved over time. Non-malignant SVCS is typically caused by infectious etiologies or by thrombus in the superior vena cava and can be manag...
